Vox Building Artist Studios

Restoration and Recovery from Fire in a Historic Building Dedicated to the Production of Art.

Studio 6mm helped a cluster of art collectives at 319 N. 11th Street recover from and rebuild after a fire closed the building in Philadelphia’s Chinatown North Neighborhood in 2017. Called “one of the liveliest places in the city for artists to connect with each other” by WHYY News, the building housed more than 60 artists practicing in a variety of media within its walls when fire struck one of the building’s emergency egress stair towers. Our work included the reconstruction of the stair, upgrades to public spaces and tenant spaces affected by the fire, general infrastructural upgrades, and a building assessment. The building is currently open and many of the original tenants have returned to continue honing their craft.
